A downloadable game for Windows and Android

Buy Now$10.00 USD or more

An open world role playing game with turn-based tactical combat.

Combat
Combat is the heart of Suzerain. You'll face enemies ranging from lightly armed brigands to huge wild creatures. Your four characters will need to choose their weapons carefully and master powerful spells.

Spells
There are over 150 unique spells to learn. The power of these spells (duration, targets, damage, etc.) can be increased by up to seven times by using additional spell points. Characters will naturally become more proficient with particular spells the more they cast them.

Exploration
The game world is vast and largely unexplored. There are numerous colonies, native tribes, caves, and ancient mysteries to discover.

Multi-Platform
Suzerain can be run on either Windows or Android - it supports both mouse/keyboard and touch-screen interfaces. A single purchase of Suzerain will let you download any version.

Supplementary Documents:
Golde's Bestiary; or, A Guide to Antipodal Fauna - A description of the creatures commonly found in Antipode.
The Three Disciplines of Spells and Magic - A list of the spells that can be learned by characters in Suzerain.

Okay so, playing a bit thus far and I have to say, this game is NASTEE!! :) Really enjoying it so far. I had a suggestion or two, in case you are interested.

1 - Summons seem to get a bit confused when there is a line of 3 allies anywhere in front of them. They will turn around and never seem to get past those 3 allies no matter what they try.

2 - It would be great to have a way to access your Allies HP during combat, to better know if they need to be healed. It's a minor thing but it goes a long way to keeping your summoned allies around longer for example, as inside combat it would be great to know for sure what their HP is at. Outside of combat is there a way to heal them as well? I didn't try that yet.

3 - Just got my first horse, and wow, both *mounted combat* AND *hauling loads* are incredibly cool! Great additions, really nice stuff here. When I saw my little Dwarf Fighter sitting on the horse AND doing 50% extra damage, *and all that extra movement*, wow, just wow. Lol!

Very cool game thus far, I def recommend it to anyone interested!

Thanks for your comments!

1. Yes, the AI for creature movement gets a little overwhelmed when there are a lot of other creatures blocking their way. A bit of the problem is due to the turn order, I think. I'll take a look at it again when I have a chance.

2. Right - not knowing your Allies' HP (or any other character's HP) during combat is by design. There is a spell called "Reveal Others" (1st level for all three magic using castes) which, when cast, let's you cycle through all non-player characters and see their HP and current conditions. Of course, using up a turn to cast Reveal Others is usually risky. In caves, etc. it can be particularly useful though.

3. Great! I'm glad you like the mounts. As you found, they can be used to transport commodities from market to market (buy low, sell high) to make some money. Besides horses, there are several other creatures that can be mounted. Enemies are sometimes mounted as well. It is possible to, for example, kill the character riding a creature, then use a Charm spell to make the creature an ally, then ride it yourself.

Another thing you might find interesting (but you might already know about):

Teleportation spells - it is possible to teleport into other characters to kill them. The character with higher HP will survive and have their HP reduced by the HP of the other character. Using the "Teleport Other" spell, one can teleport enemies into walls or other enemies to kill them. The "Teleport Party" spell lets you quickly move across the map.

Ships - it is possible to board a ship and travel by water.

And, not to spoil things too much, but later in the game, some rather advanced technology may become available for your characters to use.

Thanks again for making those videos on your YouTube channel!

Hi Samuel! Thanks for the response. Wow, those are some *really* nifty things you mentioned there, I dig it a lot! More videos are coming, although I'm currently a bit up to my neck in games to play, haha. That said, I *will* be playing more of this gem, it's quite awesome so far and I'm thoroughly impressed. Thanks for checking out the videos!

Slight bug report. Casting Persuade at the Bylow Smith caused the game to crash. It was an Elven Healer that had the spell if that makes any difference. Thanks!

Game froze later after Flencher says "To tie up loose ends, likely."

Thanks! I found some other problems with the Persuade spell and am fixing them now. I'll post another message when I've uploaded the repaired version.

I've fixed problems relating to casting Persuade and the crash during the conversation with Flencher. I've uploaded the fixed versions here. Thanks for finding those errors!

Awesome! It's my pleasure Samuel. :) That said, I started recording the game and playing it for real and I hit another pretty rough bug - your starting Spells get randomized if you select them in character creation, UNLESS you go into the Spells tab AFTER creating the character and choose the Spells there. Very important to start the game with the proper spells!

Also, I love the little touches you seem to have added, making the presentation slicker than before, good job! Love the combat log, Persuade seems to function fine now (does it just work for Smith & Stables or other spots where the button is visible??), and the other little additions are nice. Cheers! If you'd like to see me play the game, check out GAME GOD FLUENT on YouTube, the video(s) will be up soon. Thanks again for the super cool RPG!! :)

EDIT #1 - Flencher said he would join us, but when we left the cave (successfully, by telling the truth that he was still alive - I tried to lie but the guards wanted to see the body and attacked me and were incredibly more powerful than us.) he wasn't in the Allies screen or anything. If you do fix this bug soon could you also add some sort of workaround to where I could get him back? Would love to have another ally like that in my party! :) EDIT #2 - Nvm, lol. I figured out how that part works, my bad! :)

Thanks for finding another bug!

I've uploaded the fixed version here. Now spells selected through the normal character creation process will be saved. (I don't know how that bug slipped by me!)

Thanks for making those videos! I haven't watched them all the way through yet, but it's great to see someone playing Suzerain (and commenting on it at the same time)! I really appreciate it.

Realmz made me come here .... holly crap <3 dude are you still working on it ?

No, Suzerain is complete (and has quite a dramatic ending, if I may say so).

Of course there is more that one could create. I originally considered having the game take place on multiple planets, but that was a bit too ambitious.

If you (or anyone else reading these comments) have purchased the game and are interested in altering/improving/adding on to Suzerain, let me know and I'll send you the source code & all of the assets.

Hi!

Suzerain Free Edition crashes at Character Creation when I create a character as an Enchanter and then choose Persuade as a spell to learn. This happens on both the Windows version and the Java version. Does this happen on the Complete Edition, especially the Android version of the Complete Edition?

Secondly, are you still updating this game? For what I was able to play in the Free Edition, it's great enough for me to want to buy it for Android play!

Thirdly, does the Android version support gamepad controls? My phone's touchscreen is kind of problematic, so I attach my phone to a gamepad to play Android games.

Lastly, do you have a discord for this game, or an e-mail to contact you if I run into any bugs and crashes? Or do I just report here? I ran into a few other bugs that I'm trying to replicate right now while playing the Free Edition, so I was wondering where to report them if I'm successful.

Edit: One more thing! Is it alright that I make YouTube videos for this game?

Thanks for pointing out that bug! I just fixed it and uploaded the new versions.

I'm not actively working on Suzerain now, but I try to fix any bugs that I hear of.

I'm not sure how well gamepad controls will work with the Android version. If you want to test out the free Android version (and don't want to bother with installing the .apk version here), you could try installing it through the Google Play store.

I don't have a discord or any other sort of forum to discuss this game other than here.

Feel free to make YouTube videos of Suzerain!

Hey there!

I also plan on making a YouTube series for the game in time. I'm a bit busy with other games at the moment, but as soon as i saw this was a "Realmslike", I paid $10 faster than I ever have in my life. :D

Haven't had a chance to dig *too* deeply yet, but what I've played has been great! Would be awesome if you could work on an expansion or something for the game, too, but I understand if this one is over and done with!

Looking forward to playing through the game a bit. I will post the Let's Play whenever I make and upload the first video. Thanks for the awesome RPG! :)

THis looks epic surprised not uber popular found out about this at a mention of realmZ

Thanks - I hope you have a chance to try it out. The spells, combat, etc. were definitely inspired by Realmz. I added things like rideable creatures, trading commodities, environmental effects, line of sight indoors, etc. I also tried to make the UI simpler (so that it can be played on Android).

And you're right about it not being popular. If you do try it out, and like it, please spread the word!
